In 2019, I embarked on a three-week journey through the fascinating landscapes of the Balkans, armed with nothing but my backpack and my faithful Lumix G70. My quest? To dive into the world of street photography, with a dash of brutalist architecture thrown in for good measure. What I encountered in the Balkans surpassed all expectations: warm hospitality, landscapes painted in vivid colours, from the lush green forests of western Bulgaria to the mesmerising cyan sea of Montenegro.

Yet amidst this jumble of colour and culture, I found myself drawn to the allure of black and white photography. For there is a hidden narrative - one of stark contrast and haunting beauty - within the vibrant Balkan canvas. The ex-Soviet cityscape, with its brutalist facades and dystopian charm, stood as a testament to a bygone era, casting a grey veil over the balkan streets.
